Welcome to the video corner! This is where I share videos I like and share my thoughts on some of them! Note: I'm using lite-youtube-embed to try to make this page less resource intensive but it will still contain a bunch of videos, also the categorization is.. a bit odd I'm not a fan of what i've got here but splitting the videos into sections looks better so its whatever. When watching these videos I recommend having the extensions Ublock Origin, of course, as well as Sponsorblock
Featured Video
A very informative video on the recent censorship of the web and the people behind it, made in light of the recent censorship of Steam and now Itch, it also touches on how these restrictions effect and harm sex workers due to losing access to banking. The video also includes links in the description on petitions and how to help which I'll also link here ACLU Petition, Change.org Petition, https://stop-paypros.neocities.org/, https://yellat.money/. I'm not sure what I can say to add on to this video as I would hope anyone browsing my website would be aware of the fact that the groups behind this censorship do not care about victims and they do not care about the exploitation of sex workers (as all workers are exploited under capitalism but sex workers are particularly vulnerable because of groups like these). If anything they are the ones exploiting the harm done to these groups as a means of powergrabbing.
Take note of the fact that Morality in Media changed their name to National Center on Sexual Exploitation as this presentation and focus shift is a common tactic by right wing groups. By framing themselves like this they are able to frame any opposition to them as "evil" "Oh you're criticizing the anti-sex trafficking group? Oh so you support sex trafficking?", a framing used in many arguments by many groups of people as a means of silencing discussion and debate. Recently I went on twitter for the first time in ages (i know i shouldn't) and I saw an artist I used to follow on there retweeting a post where the original post was complaining about the UK Online Safety Act requiring Face ID for pornhub and the QRT they had boosted saying (paraphrased as I don't have the original tweet and it made mention of a specific individual) "remember how pornhub used to have CSAM material on it and would not remove it when asked" and the QRTer in the replies was arguing we need to "enact more safety measures". The invasion of privacy and assertion of control over millions of people is not "safety", this is the kind of thinking that has you agreeing with things like the surveillance state of the United States "to fight terrorism". Mind you this artist I followed and then promptly blocked was queer and identitifed as a leftist.
While it is important to care about the harm done to people and think about what we can /actually/ do to help and protect them, these groups and laws are not because they care about safety and victims and have been proven time and time again to not make things safer, they are a means of control and it's why we must remain informed and use critical thinking.
