Objectober: Burger

Burger time! Funfact when I was first making the objectober list burger was the very first thing I put on it. I probably could've put just food but at the time I wasn't sure if I'd be studying single objects at a time or multiple.
This one was certainly interesting, I've never really done digital painting before but I already plan to do some more of it in the future as a means of more practice, even if I end up not using it much in the future it's a good skill to build. It particularly works well for rendering food and in the future it'll be interesting trying to strike the stylization balance of making food that looks tasty but also making it look like it fits in the art. The ground beef was particularly the hardest part to color it's such an interesting texture even without taking into account all the highlights from the grease. Very "random bullshit go". Honestly I wasn't intending to do digital painting I was just tracing a burger to get a feel for the shape of the parts but I was like "oh yeah I'm gonna wanna color this in so it isnt just black lines on grey" and then well. I started doing more and more.
I've used the term "color referenced not color picking" a few times and idk if that needs explanation but in case, basically what im doing is I'm looking at a part of the reference and then picking in my color wheel what color i /think/ that is and then i make a stroke by the part I'm referencing to see how close I am and then adjusting from there. It's something I heard about that seemed like a good way to train my brain to "see" colors better, I use traced drawings for this so my brain doesn't focus on making the drawing look good just the coloring. Problem is I think i can tend to get caught up in picking out the exact color which is one of the issues I have while doing this I'm sure as I get better at picking out the colors I'll start to not even compare it to the original picture and start to make more intentional choices on my colors, which admittedly I already did a bit in this such as with the color of the ground beef, but yknow how it is. Beginner issues. Another issue I had relating to that was the way I laid on the colors and stuff was kind of random and all over and trying to get exact color of exact spot when I should pick a shadow color for a part and just use that for the whole thing yknow what I'm saying? I was more copying the reference then structing the color I think is how to phrase it?
Definitely a lot to work on and consider but this honestly took a lot out of me I'm not gonna lie so it's the only one I'm doing for today. I drew a couple smaller burgers just to see how I fair in the shapes particularly for the beef and stuff, not references for those just kinda goin at it. The zomburger was cause the idea of a burger with some substance on it making a skull shape like the poison apple from snow white has been on my mind for a while now and it happens it's halloween so I would've drawn that if it wasn't but. festive!
