Objectober: Phones

For day 17 I chose to draw phones, specifically flip phones, I kinda decided for the sake of my art I have no interest in portraying my characters with modern smartphones. Flip phones just look better, they just feel better, and it just fits the vibes of the art I' wanna make. The many different ways in which phones can look also can be part of characterization and stuff, it's just better in my opinion to portray characters with these styles of phones rather than everyone has "the slab". Sure there's phone cases and whatever those one things are called pop sockets?? idk but they just don't hit that characterization itch the way deciding if a character has a slide phone or a phone that rotates or a phone with charms on it does yknow? I think it's because there's a big characterization difference between using different shapes and motions versus everyone has the same rectangle but it has different patterns printed on it. Also I forget phone cases exist cause I don't use them because I find they make my phone really uncomfortable to hold.
Anyways actually on the topic of the drawing, not much to say here beyond typical. I've been thinking a lot about how I'm going to go forward with my practice once I'm done with the objectober stuff and it's 2026 because I still plan on having this practice period within 2026 but I'd like to not extend into 2027 so figuring out what I'm going to focus on for the sake of my art going forward is something I gotta get done, pretty much all of the objectober drawings have shown me I really need to work on perspective and this ones no different.
Also before I started working on putting this drawing on here I was working on something else and I came to a realization, I've always struggled with pen pressure, in particular I was always amazed at how people could make strokes where they change the pressure while making the stroke and it changes the width to be larger yknow? Basic stuff but I could never seem to do it myself. Turns out my tablet is just not doing it! It does do it but it only works if I hold the pen straight up and down which is not normally how I hold it. I'm kind of wondering if it might have to do my pen nib? It's been worn down since I haven't changed it at all since I got this tablet which. was 5 years ago now. My assumption being because it's been worn down to a weird flat diagonal it can't press down the way it's supposed to. It could not be I could just have to change how I hold my pen and get used to it but I ordered some new pen nibs so we'll see how things go in the future. Kind of annoying that this one thing I've wanted for my art and seemed to never be able to do was solely because of a technical limitation and not my own incompetence this entire time.
