Head Tracings

More head practice this time I traced over people's heads following the Asaro head. I did 4 with the Asaro head model I've been using for reference (once again from here) on screen and 4 without to see how much I memorized. It gets a bit tricky when people are actually making facial expressions since it makes the planes sort of shift around and kinda creates new ones? which is why I think I may also need to study the Reilly method and definitely more practice as always. I also have difficulty when it comes to the top of the head and people having hair... maybe I should study some bald people so I can get a bit of a handle on head size? I don't know this isn't in depth yet just kinda cursory. The 5th and 10th pictures are just the tracings on their own for clarity.
I sourced these photos from earthworld, I kinda got the idea to do the way I'm studying from this youtube video and in it they mention they use earthworld's photos for study. If you know me you know I'm kind of picky on what art videos I think are actually useful, I have a lot of thoughts on the current state of learning art online and how many people make videos that are useless at best and detrimental at worst (looking at you "50 digital art tips in 5 minutes"). But I felt this one was good because first of all they don't really position themselves as a teacher really but rather just showing how they do it. I'm highly judgemental of people who frame themselves as art teachers in youtube videos and such, in the sense that if I go through their art and I don't see a single fat woman I don't trust them. Perhaps they may have a lot of technical skill but how can I trust how good you actually are at drawing the body if you can only draw women in one specific way? If you position yourself as someone to learn from then you need to actually be able to prove you're someone worth learning from. Second of all as stated before I just think the Asaro head method is definitely closer to helping my art than the Loomis head haha.
Also yes these are from December 30th, it took me so long to add here because I've been kind of low energy for the past few days honestly the first 4 days of 2026 are a complete blur to me. It happens but I'm starting to feel better so hopefully getting things on track.
